Joseph Emery Dupuis, 80, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Exeter.Born in Memramcook East, New Brunswick, Canada, on May 30, 1920, he was the son of the late Livain and Alice (Dupuis) Dupuis.

Raised in Canada, he attended local schools including St. Joseph’s College and later two years of seminary school, also in Canada. In 1948, he settled in the Lynn, Mass., area and started a longtime career with United Engineers & Construction Co., retiring in the mid-1980s as chief timekeeper.

He resided in Portsmouth for more than 35 years. After his retirement he worked as the outdoor yard manager at the Flower Wagon, a florist shop in Hampton that his wife owned and operated. He loved gardening and was a communicant of St. James Church.

He was the husband of Lorraine F. “Lorrie” (Johnson) Dupuis for 58 years. In addition to his wife, family members include four sons, Emery J. Dupuis of Kinnelon, N.J.; Oscar J. Dupuis of Oxford, Pa.; Charles L. Dupuis of Wilmington, N.C.; and Gerard J. Dupuis of Ashton, Pa.; two daughters, Celia M. Connors of Mullica Hill, N.J.; and Alice M. Holding of Portsmouth; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma LeBlanc and Annie Cormier, both of Shediac, NB, Canada; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by a daughter, Marie Ellen Dupuis, who died in 1998.
